Running Backs Rankings

With no pre-season games, we have a ton of unknowns entering the season at the running back position. After Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley and Ezekiel Elliott, we are unsure of how things will shake out at the top. While one contract situation was resolved (Joe Mixon), Alvin Kamara and Dalvin Cook's remain up in the air. Behind them you have a rookie in Clyde Edwards-Helaire and a low volume passing back in Derrick Henry. While I really like the upside of Miles Sanders, the Eagles O-line has suffered major setbacks. Mix in Joe Mixon's migraine issues and you really have a lot of unknowns from RB4-RB13.

1) Christian McCaffrey-
Over the last 10 years three running backs have seen 22% of the team target share, all three are Christian McCaffrey. He is the ultimate fantasy football weapon and is coming off of one of the most historic seasons in NFL history. I really don't need to type much here, if you have #1 overall pick you take McCaffrey without thinking and if you don't, well you will not have a chance of drafting him.

2) Saquon Barkley-
3) Ezekiel Elliott-
I think Barkley and Elliott are a real tossup this season, I prefer Barkley in PPR and Elliott in standard. You really can't go wrong with either of them and you take them accordingly if available. Elliott is going to be on one of the best offenses in the league and has massive touchdown upside, while the Giants are likely to be trailing often getting Barkley more work in the passing game.

Tier 2 / 3

At this very moment, I do not know who I would take at 4-7 in my drafts with so many unknowns between CEH, Henry, Cook and Kamara. Hopefully both of the contract situations are resolved before your drafts. I prefer Kamara over Cook, but I would be intrigued in the upside of both Henry and CEH although they contain much more risk than Kamara and Cook.

Tier 4 /5
With wide receiver so deep in rounds 2-7, I am most likely not going to end up with a running back in these tiers but it will depend how you draft in the first two rounds. I am fading Le'Veon Bell, Mark Ingram for sure at there current ADP's and unlikely to have any other RB that has an ADP of 20-40 as I really like the WR value in that range.
I think running back is fairly deep in the later rounds of your draft with several high upside guys as well. You can find those players below in our top-70 Projections.
